PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Information Technology and Communications Engineering PEOs are consistent with institutional mission and vision statements and are aligned to the needs and requirements of the constituencies. The PEOs were designed during a working meeting, with the participation of the constituencies, held in February 2021. However, a review and possible update will be carried out in July 2023. Current Information Technology and Communications Engineering PEOs establish that, in a few years, the program graduates will:
- Be working as professional engineers in industry or in the field of information and communication technologies holding middle management positions in industry.
- Keep up to date in their professional area through advanced graduate programs or professional certifications.
- Have the bases to generate companies in the field of ICT engineering oriented to satisfy diverse requirements of the social sectors.
STUDENT OUTCOMES
As ABET has stated, student outcomes are those theoretical-practical developments students are expected to have and able to perform when graduating. They are related to knowledge, skills, and behaviors students acquire throughout the program.
During fall 2021 semester, by ABET recommendation, the Information Technology and Communications Engineering (ICT-Eng) program adopted ten student outcomes derived from integration of student outcomes from CAC and EAC ABET accreditation commissions, see Table 1.

1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions. |
2. Identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics. |
3. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline. |
4. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with considerations of public health, safety and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors. |
5. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts. |
6. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing or engineering practice, based on legal and ethical principles, considering the impact of engineering / technological solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts. |
7. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline, creating a collaborative and inclusive environment, establishing goals, planning tasks, and meeting objectives. |
8. Use systemic approaches to select, develop, apply, integrate, and administer secure computing technologies to accomplish user goals. |
9. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze, and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions. |
10. Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies. |
