Program Educational Objectives

The program educational objectives are defined as the accomplishments of graduates during the first few years after graduation.

 

The program educational objectives of the Electronics Engineering program are:

1.  Use knowledge and engineering skills to solve problems in industry, thus promoting its technological development

2.  Develop and manage technological development projects, joining graduate programs, or teaching.

3.  Demonstrate professional engineering competence to adapt, maintain, and implement emerging and traditional technologies as appropriate to improve their organization and community.

 

Student Outcomes

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the skills, knowledge and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

Since the semester of fall 2012, the Electronics Engineering program at ITA adopted the student outcomes proposed by ABET (Student outcomes 3a through 3k), as follows:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering
  2. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. an ability to communicate effectively (3g1 orally, 3g2 written)
  8. the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. a knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

 

However, according to the changes in ABET’s definition of the Student Outcomes for BS students, the program of Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at ITA is shifting to the new set of seven student outcomes defined in the Criteria for Accrediting Engineering Programs, 2019 – 2020:

1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics

2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors

3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences

4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts

5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives

6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions

7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Objetivos Educativos del Programa

Los objetivos educativos del programa se definen como los logros de los egresados durante los primeros años de su graduación.

Los objetivos educativos del programa de Ingeniería Electrónica, son:  

1.  Utilizar los conocimientos y habilidades de ingeniería para resolver problemas en la industria, promoviendo así su desarrollo tecnológico.

2. Desarrollar y gestionar proyectos de desarrollo tecnológico, uniéndose a programas de postgrado, o la enseñanza.

3. Demostrar competencia profesional de ingeniería para adaptar, mantener y aplicar las tecnologías emergentes y tradicionales según corresponda para mejorar su organización y la comunidad.

 

Desempeños de los egresados.

 

Los student outcomes, o desempeños de los egresados, describen lo que se espera que los estudiantes sepan y sean capaces de hacer al momento de su graduación. Éstos se relacionan con las habilidades, conocimiento y comportamientos que los estudiantes adquieren en su progreso en el programa.

 

El programa de Ingeniería Electrónica del ITA adoptó los desempeños de egresados propuestos por ABET, como sigue:

  1. Una habilidad para aplicart conocimiento de matemáticas, ciencia e ingeniería.
  2. Una habilidad para diseñar y conducir experimentos, así como para analizar e interpretar datos.
  3. Una habilidad para diseñar sistemas, componentes o procesos para cumplir necesidades, bajo restricciones realistas, tales como económicas, ambientales, sociales, políticas, éticas, de salud y seguridad, manufacturabilidad y sustentabilidad.
  4. Una habilidad para funcionar en equipos multidisciplinarios.
  5. Una habilidad para identificar, formular y resolver problemas de ingeniería.
  6. Una comprensión de la responsabilidad ética y profesional.
  7. Una habilidad para comunicarse efectivamente
  8. La amplia educación necesaria para c omprender el impacto de las soluciones ingenieriles en el contexto global, económico, ambiental y social.
  9. Un reconocimiento de la necesidad de, y una habilidad para, participar en su aprendizaje de por vida.
  10. Un conocimiento de la problemática contemporánea
  11. Una habilidad para usar técnicas, habilidades y herramientas de la ingeniería moderna necesarias para la práctica de la ingenería.
